Through Lawrence Memorial/Regis College, MelroseWakefield Healthcare offers a certificate program for licensed Radiologic Technologists in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) certificate program
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is an imaging technology that uses radio waves in a strong magnetic field to produce three-dimensional detailed anatomical images.
Who can apply
To apply to this certificate program, you MUST
- be a graduate of an accredited imaging program (new graduates may apply; however, admission preference is given to registered radiologic technologists)
- hold current ARRT certification in Radiography, Nuclear Medicine or Radiation Therapy or current certification with the Nuclear Medicine Technology Board (NMTCB)
Program schedule
The program runs eight (8) months, September – April.
Tuition

What you will learn
- Basic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) physics and principles
- What is magnetic resonance imaging phenomenon
- How magnetic resonance signals are produced
- How an image can be formulated using MRI
- Using imaging parameters to change soft tissue contrast
- How to explain the procedure to a patient
- How to position the patient in preparation for imaging
How you will learn
- Four didactic courses conducted in a hybrid format (both online and in-person classroom time)
- Clinical practicum, to help you gain experience with MRI procedures and acquire the competencies necessary to be eligible to take the ARRT MRI examination.
- The clinical placement is 16 hours/week and designed, when possible, to be flexible enough to accommodate the needs of clinical affiliate as well as your schedule.
- If you are currently working in the desired modality, you can use your place of employment as their clinical placement.
- If you are not currently working in the desired modality, clinical placement will be arranged for you.
- We do not guarantee completion of the competencies; however, all students from past years have been able to complete their competency list prior to the program’s end.
Benefits of completing the program
- You will receive the ARRT mandated CEU’s necessary to register for the ARRT MRI exam.
- You will have months of valuable MRI imaging experience to add to your resume.
- You can transfer certain credits to Regis College towards a BS in Medical Imaging.
