Advanced Placement

Policy

Applicants presently or previously enrolled in a professional medical radiography program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology may be granted advanced placement within the curriculum. Applicants must follow the program's regular admission policy and procedures for acceptance prior to being evaluated for possible advanced placement in the program. All advanced placed students must complete at least one half of the Lawrence Memorial/Regis College Medical Radiography courses in order to graduate.

Transfer of Non-Medical Radiography College Course Credits

No more than five (5) non-medical radiography college courses may be transferred from another college for exemption. After acceptance, a student who has completed more than five (5) transferable courses, may petition the Registrar, Medford campus, prior to consideration for one additional exemption. Students may choose to enroll in non-medical radiography courses at Regis College or may elect to take approved comparable courses at an accredited college of their choice. Courses taken at Regis College at any time will not be counted as exemptions.

Advanced Placement Medical Radiography Transfer Students

A transfer student seeking advanced placement in the program must have successfully completed their last medical radiography course (theory, integrated theory / laboratory and/or clinical) within 15 months prior to enrollment in medical radiography courses. Medical radiography courses will only be considered for transfer if a grade average of B- (80%) or better was achieved in previous medical radiography education. Three references are required: (1) from the director of the previous medical radiography program, (2) from the most recent clinical instructor and (3) current or most recent employer. Students transferring from another medical radiography program will have their course work evaluated for equivalency by the Program Director prior to being considered for validation testing and placement in an appropriate medical radiography course within the curriculum.

Validation Testing

Validation of previous medical radiography knowledge is required to verify adequate, equivalent knowledge and skills prior to placement in medical radiography courses (see Validation Testing policy).

Procedure for Students Transferring from Another Medical Radiography Program:

  1. Following acceptance into the program by the Admission and Progression Committee, the student will provide the Program Director a portfolio of course descriptions and syllabi for all college medical radiography courses completed. These will be considered for credit award in this program. The student's previous medical radiography program course work will be evaluated by Program Director and Program Clinical Coordinator to determine if the course(s) is/are comparable. The medical radiography course grade(s) must be B- (80%) or better. Non-Medical Radiography courses will be evaluated by the Registrar for exemption according to the Exemption from Non-Medical Radiography Courses policy. To be considered for exemption, each non-medical radiography course grade must be C - (72%) or better.
  2. Prior to enrollment in medical radiography courses, all prerequisite courses must be satisfactorily completed.
  3. Prior to enrollment, a transfer student will be required to validate previous medical radiography knowledge through validation testing (see Validation Testing policy).
